L'INTERNATIONAL RUGBY BOARD ET LA CONFEDERATION AFRICAINE DE RUGBY, NOUVEAUX PARTENAIRES DE L'ACNOA
THE INTERNATIONAL RUGBY BOARD AND THE AFRICAN RUGBY CONFEDERATION, ANOCA'S NEW PARTNERS
A l'occasion de la 12ème Assemblée Générale de l'ACNOA qui a conclu les 9èmes Jeux Africains organisés à Alger
du 11 au 23 Juillet 2007, l'Association des Comités Nationaux Olympiques d'Afrique a signé une convention de
partenariat avec la Confédération Africaine de Rugby (CAR) et l'International Rugby Board (IRB).
Cette convention vise à promouvoir la pratique du rugby sur le continent africain. L'un de ses objectifs est
également d'étudier et de permettre l'inscription du rugby au programme sportif des prochains Jeux Africains.
A l'issue de la signature, le Général Lassana Palenfo, Président de l'ACNOA, s'est félicité de cette convention : «Cette convention constitue un pas décisif pour le développement du rugby sur notre continent. Le rugby est un sport qui place le respect et le fair-play au rang de valeurs essentielles et je me réjouis que notre Famille Olympique contribue à promouvoir ce sport et l'esprit sportif qui l'anime».
Le rugby est un sport qui connaît un succès croissant sur le continent avec 36 Fédérations africaines membres de la Confédération Africaine de Rugby.
Pour rappel, l'Afrique du Sud et la Namibie sont les deux pays africains participants à la prochaine Coupe du monde de Rugby organisée à Paris (France) du 7 septembre au 20 octobre 2007.
On the occasion of ANOCA's 12th General Assembly that brought to an end the 9th All Africa Games held in
Algiers from 11 to 23 July 2007, the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, signed a
Partnership Agreement with the African Rugby Confederation (ARC) and the International Rugby Board (IRB).
This convention aims at promoting the practice of rugby on the African Continent. One of its objectives is
also to examine ways and means to include rugby in the programme of the next All Africa Games.
After the signing ceremony, General Lassana Palenfo, President of ANOCA, commended the agreement: «This agreement constitutes a decisive step towards the development of rugby on our continent. Rugby is a discipline that considers respect and fair play as fundamental values and I am happy our Olympic Family contributes to the promotion of this discipline as well as its sports spirit».
Rugby is a discipline that has been gaining more and more success across the continent, with 36 African Federations being members of the African Rugby Confederation.
As a reminder, South Africa and Namibia are the two African Countries that will take part in the next Rugby World Cup in Paris (France) from 7 September to 20 October 2007.
