Purpose

Created in Lome, Togo, on 28 June 1981, the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) is an association constituted among the National Olympic Committees of Africa (NOCs).

ANOCA abides by the fundamental principles of the Olympic Charter and, for that purpose, has the duty to:

  • Promote understanding, cooperation and mutual assistance among NOCs of Africa ;

  • Help African NOCs propagate, develop and protect Olympic ethics throughout the African continent ;

  • Plan and coordinate the action of African NOCs in order to better rationalize the intervention of the Olympic Solidarity ;

  • Organize and coordinate the preparation and participation of Africa in the Olympic games ;

  • Harmonize cooperation relations between African NOCs, the International Olympic Committee and the Association of National Olympic Committees ;

  • Celebrate in close cooperation with the NOCs concerned, African Sports Confederations and the S.C.S.A, the All- Africa Games pursuant to the Olympic Charter ;

  • Cooperate in general with governmental and non-governmental sports bodies in order to facilitate the elaboration and implementation in Africa of a coherent strategy for sports development which translates in terms of operational programmes the right for all to practise sports and physical activities ;

  • Foster through the introduction and support of training programmes and planned action, a more rational and quality preparation of African athletes for the Olympic Games ;

  • Encourage the participation of women in the Olympic Movement ;

  • Secure in accordance with the fundamental principles that govern the Olympic Movement funding sources likely to support the action of African NOCs.
